Zarafshan Range

The Zarafshan Range stretches across Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and is part of the Pamir-Alay mountain system. Its highest peak is Chimtarga (5,489 m). The Zarafshan Glacier is one of the longest in Central Asia. Rich in minerals like gold and coal, the range has hosted civilizations such as Sogdiana, Alexander the Great’s forces, the Samanids, and the Russian Empire. The Fan Darya and Yaghnob valleys are notable for their natural and cultural significance. The region is inhabited mainly by Tajiks and the Yaghnobi people.
