Arbob Cultural Palace

Located near the city of Khujand in Tajikistan’s Gafurov district, the Arbob Cultural Palace (Qasri Arbob) is a monumental architectural marvel dating back to the Soviet era. Built in the 1950s under the initiative of Saidkhoja Urunkhojaev, the visionary head of the collective farm at the time, this grand structure once served as the central headquarters for the region's collective farms. Architecturally, the Arbob Palace was modeled after the winter gardens of the Peterhof Palace in St. Petersburg, but this Soviet inspiration was fused with rich decorative elements, stucco work, and gilding characteristic of traditional Tajik architecture. While the palace's main building stands out with its grandeur and elegance, it is surrounded by a masterful park, fountains, and rose gardens. Today, the palace is not only an architectural monument but also a symbol of a critical turning point in Tajikistan's history; the 16th Session of the Supreme Council (Shuroi Oli) in 1992, which determined the country's post-independence future, was held here. One wing of the palace now houses a museum dedicated to the history of collectivization and the Soviet era, making it an essential destination in Khujand for both history buffs and architecture enthusiasts.
