Monument of Neutrality

The Neutrality Monument is a monumental structure located in Ashgabat that symbolizes Turkmenistan's official policy of neutrality. Built in 1998, it is a three-legged arch and stands 75 meters high. Built during the reign of Saparmurat Turkmenbashi, the monument featured a 12-meter-tall, gold-plated statue facing the sun. In 2010, by decree of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, it was moved to a suburb of Ashgabat. It was dismantled and re-erected by the Turkish company Polimeks. While the statue no longer rotates, the monument contains elevators and a panoramic viewing platform. Its nightly illumination makes it a landmark that attracts tourists.
