Seyit Cemaleddin Mosque
The Seyit Cemaleddin Mosque is a historic 15th-century house of worship located in the town of Anew. A significant part of Turkmen cultural heritage, this mosque stands out for its period's architectural features. It was built around 1456 during the reign of Khorasan ruler Abu Qassim Babur by his vizier, Muhammad Hudaydad. The mosque is located next to the tomb of Sheikh Cemaleddin of Anew. The mosque served not only as a house of worship but also as part of a madrasah and mausoleum complex. The mosaic of two opposing animal figures in the entrance arch is a rare decorative style in Central Asia. The great earthquake of 1948 destroyed most of the mosque. However, its ruins and structures, such as the sardoba, continue to bear traces of the region's historical life. This mosque is religiously and culturally significant and a part of the spiritual heritage of the Turkmen people.
