Saparmyrat Hajji Mosque

The Saparmyrat Hajji Mosque (Turkmen: Saparmyrat Hajy metjidi) is a prominent mosque located in Gökdepe, Turkmenistan. It was built between 1994 and 1995 by the French company Bouygues, commissioned in memory of the soldiers who defended the nearby Gökdepe Fortress. Named after President Saparmyrat Nyýazow following his pilgrimage, the mosque is a striking landmark known for its dark green dome and four surrounding half-domes. It features four minarets, each 63 meters high, symbolizing the Prophet Muhammad's age. The mosque has a capacity for 8,000 people and its interior is richly decorated with traditional Turkmen carpet motifs and pastel blue designs. In 2008, the complex was renovated and expanded by a Turkish firm, adding facilities like a ritual banquet hall and the Gökdepe National Museum on the mosque's grounds.
