Samanid Mausoleum
The Samanid Mausoleum, located in northwestern Bukhara, is one of the oldest Islamic funerary monuments in Central Asia, built in the 9th–10th centuries during the Samanid dynasty. Situated in an ancient cemetery, the mausoleum was commissioned by Ismail Samani for his father Ahmad ibn Asad. It later became a family tomb, housing the remains of Ismail Samani and his grandson. Constructed entirely of baked brick, its design draws inspiration from Zoroastrian burial structures and fire temples. The mausoleum is celebrated as a masterpiece of early Islamic architecture in the region.
