Muhammad Amin Khan Madrassah
The Muhammad Amin Khan Madrassah is one of the largest madrasahs in Khiva, located on the western edge of the Ichan Kala complex and built in the 19th century. Commissioned by Khiva’s ruler Muhammad Amin Bahadur Khan, the madrassah was constructed between 1851 and 1855. Covering an area of 72 × 60 meters, the two-story building contains 125 cells designed for 260 students. Each cell had two rooms, and those on the upper floor included loggias facing the facade. The structure features glazed brick ornamentation, intricately carved wooden doors, and majolica with floral patterns. Adjacent to the madrassah stands the Kalta Minor, forming a monumental ensemble near Khiva’s western gate — the Ata Darvaza.
