Ichan Kala
Ichan Kala is the walled inner town of Khiva, Uzbekistan, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990. It preserves over 50 historic monuments and 250 traditional houses. Surrounded by 10-meter-high brick walls built in the 5th–6th centuries, Ichan Kala was the last stop for caravans before crossing the desert to Iran. Inside are the Juma Mosque (10th century), Kunya Ark, Tash Hauli Palace, Islam Khodja Minaret, madrasahs, mausoleums, and craft workshops. Most buildings date from the 18th–19th centuries and retain their original appearance.
