Medeu
Medeu is a high-altitude sports complex located 18 km from Almaty at 1,691 meters above sea level, home to the world’s highest artificial ice rink. Originally opened in 1951 as a natural ice rink, the current Medeu complex was built in 1972. The ice surface spans 10,500 m² with a 400-meter oval track. Over 200 world records have been set here. The facility hosts speed skating, hockey, figure skating, and public skating sessions. It has been a venue for the Asian Winter Games and other international events. As of 2025, major renovation and modernization efforts are underway to preserve its legacy and enhance its infrastructure.
