Bozzhyra

Bozzhyra is a surreal canyon landscape located in the Mangystau Region of western Kazakhstan, on the Ustyurt Plateau. Millions of years ago, this area was the seabed of the ancient Tethys Ocean. As the waters receded, they left behind limestone, chalk formations, and fossils — including mollusks, algae imprints, and shark teeth. Bozzhyra features towering white cliffs over 200 meters high, twin-horned mountain silhouettes, and moon-like grey desert terrain. It’s a dream destination for photographers, nature lovers, and adventure seekers. Bozzhyra is often described as Kazakhstan’s otherworldly natural wonder.
