Aktolagay Ridge

Located in western Kazakhstan, the Aktolagay Ridge is a hilly mountain formation in the Bayganin District of Aktobe Region. This area lies within the southwestern part of the Pre-Ural Plateau, in the zone between the Sagyz and Zhem rivers. The Aktolagay Ridge stretches approximately 90 kilometers in length and 5 to 10 kilometers in width. Its highest point is Kiyakty Hill, reaching 217 meters. The terrain is dissected by ravines and gullies, with escarpments rising up to 140 meters. The ridge is the source of the Terisakkan River, and to its west lies the Tolagay salt lake. Its geological layers consist of chalk formations that were formed on the floor of an ancient sea. Fossil remains such as shark teeth and ammonites have been found in the area. With its natural and geological features, Aktolagay is considered one of Kazakhstan’s significant natural landmarks.
